In just 10 weeks you will review a civilization that existed 3,500 years ago - but you will be that much more knowledgeable! With many visual aids, Jim Ashton will instruct on the beginnings of the Egyptian nation- from before the old Kingdom (pre 3000 BC based on archeological finds) to the end of the New Kingdom. Also, a brief introduction to Middle Egyptian Hieroglyphs will wake your interest in this fascinating language if time permits. (15 hours)

Jim Ashton has a BA Single Honours in Egyptology from the University of Wales Swansea. Jim has milled with the experts - amongst them Kent Weeks, the rediscoverer of KV5 (the tomb of the sons of Ramesses the great), Selima Ikram, the animal mummy expert, and Aland Lloyd, one of the world leaders in hieroglyphs. He is retired from Nato, and is planning his next trip to Egypt
